Introductory lecture series/course on synchrotron radiation based physics

PhD Course, Lecture

The lecture series will comprise 14 lectures that will be given at Chalmers by instrument scientists from the MAX IV laboratory and other leading experts in the field. We plan to have two lectures a week during the 4th study period of the present academic year, 19/3 - 26/5 2018. The lectures will describe the structure and operating principles of various beamlines and exemplify with recent research activities and highlights.

Among the topics that will be addressed are:

* Accelerators and insertion devices
* Small angle scattering
* Imaging (STXM, PEEM, CXI)
* Diffraction (Ptychography, XPDF, crystallography (incl. dynamics))
* XPS (on atoms, molecules and solids under ambient conditions)
* ARPES (e.g. on topological materials with spin analysis)
* Dynamics of surface reactions
* Experimental possibilities at X-ray Free-Electron Laser sources

Registration is not compulsory, but we would appreciate if those interested could contact us so that we get an estimate for the number of participants.

The lectures are supported by the Gothenburg Physics Centre via the Area of Advance Materials Science, Chalmers University of Technology, and the University of Gothenburg.
